One cutting-and-finishing stage. Removes most light to medium swirls. The right call for most daily drivers.
Compound first, then refine. Takes out the heaviest defects and finishes as close to perfect as the paint allows.
More isn't always better. Most cars leave the factory with roughly 40 to 60 microns of clear coat, and every correction pass removes a few of them. A two-step on paint that doesn't need one is excessive unless you're striving for perfection. I walk you through this at inspection.
Correction is permanent. The defects that come out don't come back. What isn't permanent is the bare clear coat left behind, and it starts collecting new swirls the first time the car gets washed.
A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that bonds to the clear coat and cures into a hard, glossy layer. Dirt, bird droppings, bug splatter, road film, hard water, and UV contact the coating instead of your clear coat, and they rinse off instead of etching in.
The surface is also hydrophobic, so water sheets and beads off and contaminants have a harder time sticking. The car stays cleaner between washes and requires less contact to wash, which is what reduces swirls getting back into the paint.
Coating goes on right after correction, while the paint is decontaminated and freshly polished. That's when it bonds properly, so every package I offer finishes with one.
